Google’s
self-proclaimed mission is to “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”
In the process of fulfilling its mission, Google has laid out
10 guiding principles—including #6, “You can make money without doing evil.” Or, in short,
“Don’t be evil.”
But what happens when they don’t live up to this ideal? Who holds Google accountable when they break rule #6? Answer:
We all should.
Why? Because when one of the world’s most powerful companies does evil, we should all be concerned about the ramifications.
Our Purpose
This site is dedicated to shining a spotlight on the bad stuff Google is doing. Not because we want to destroy Google, but because we want to see them stay true to their stated goal of not being evil.
We want to be the best source on the Web for tips and stories on Google’s missteps. We are a watchblog that will hold them accountable, in some small way, for the damages they may be causing.
As Thomas Friedman explains about the “flat world” we live in, “One new area that is going to need sorting out is the relationship between global corporations and their own moral consciences” (from
The World Is Flat). This site exists to help Google, in that sense.
Who We Are

And we’re people who care about people (jobs, the economy) and the environment and justice issues around the world. That’s why we want to see Google do better in the places where it may be doing wrong.
And, just like
Google’s rule #7 states, we know that there’s always more information out there. So …
